The exhaust system is often an under-rated part of the car, and many people don't realise that in order for your car to work effectively and efficiently, your exhaust system must be fully functioning and complete. Car exhaust system parts can need repairing or replacing at any time, and it is important to understand the importance of each separate part and what exactly it does to keep your car running smoothly.

One very important component of a car exhaust system is a muffler. If you have ever been in, or close to a car with a defective muffler, then you will appreciate just what a huge difference it makes to the sheer noise level of the car. If you look inside a muffler it will look deceptively simple, it is really just a set of tubes with holes. What you may not realise is that these tubes and chambers are finely tuned, along the same lines as a musical instrument and are designed to reflect any sound waves which are produced by the engine so that they cancel themselves out as much as possible.

Other important car exhaust system parts are catalytic converters. These days there are so many cars on the road that pollution is steadily increasing, and while on the one hand we are all trying to be environmentally friendly and reduce emissions, on the other hand we have more and more cars and use them without really giving it a second thought. This is where the catalytic converter comes in, as its important function is to convert the harmful gases from the engine into less harmful pollutants before they ever the leave the exhaust and go into the atmosphere. An efficient catalytic converter is vital for the smooth running of the car and also to help reduce the dangerous emissions from the exhaust.
